Heavy snow, piercing winds, in the winter of 2019,we came to New York. This is a magical city, prosperous and quiet, lively and comfortable. As soon as I got out of the airport, a cold wind came in, how cold it is! Hello, New York!
The next afternoon in New York, we came to the United Nations headquarters. This is a sacred place and the only "international territory" in the world. In front of the building, the national flags fluttered, symbolizing the dignity of the countries. After extremely strict security checks, we finally entered the United Nations headquarters. In the square in front of the building, a statue of a bent gun stands there, symbolizing the peaceful coexistence of the people of the world and the rejection of war. The atmosphere in the building was so serious that it was so quiet that no noise could be heard.
After a visit, we entered the main venue of the United Nations General Assembly. All the important meetings are held here. The meeting was divided into two parts, the front of which was a row of tables and chairs, and the back of which was an ordinary chair. There was a glass window above the meeting rooms, and the people sitting in it were responsible for simultaneous interpretation, who could translate English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic.
It was here that the opening ceremony of the WIMUN was held, and the scene of the opening ceremony was extremely spectacular, with 1200 delegates from more than 30 countries filled with the venue, and the atmosphere at the venue was extremely serious. Many important people went up to speak, and when the announcement was made, the World Federation officially began.
I remember when I first signed up for the WIMUN,I didn't know anything about MUN. Later, after several training sessions, I had a clear framework of it. I was a little down when I learned about the country I represent. Trinidad and Tobago, a barely-known country near the Caribbean Sea in Central America, has little information available online. After a long time of searching, the position paper was completed.
In listening to other representatives, I found that they spoke and thought in very different ways. First of all, they pay more attention to the skills of speech, such as off-script speech and impromptu speech ability. Moreover, the statements made by foreign repr esentatives focus on appealing rather than content. However, many domestic representatives, including me, have come to the stage to pile up their own ideas, and perhaps it is true that these ideas are very constructive. But it doesn't get noticed.
In the course of the meeting, I felt how weak I was. First of all, my ability of English speaking limited me to express my opinions freely and fluently. Secondly, the speed of speech and accents of other delegates affected my understanding of their opinions. Also, the level of content they discuss is so high that it is difficult for me to join them. This makes me have a deeper degree of thinking about the future of learning, so that I understand where to improve them.
The two-and-a-half-day meeting will soon be over, and the delegates in our meeting will have great differences of views. After a long period of discussion, they have reached the realm of complete unity of views, and everyone is very excited. What we have gained is not only experience, but also academic advancement, as well as friendship with representatives of various countries.
